I see two scenario's:
1:
Uninstall SABnzbd from your MAC, including the config file sabnzbd.ini
Install and start SABnzbd. It should give you the wizard. If no wizard, stop SABnzbd and find & delete sabnzbd.ini, and start SABnzbd again: you should get the wizard
In the SAB wizard, only fill out your newsserver(s). Do NOT change directories.
Check that the 1GB testfile works OK. Then do your downloads.
2:
Use that "different newsgroup downloader"
