Your "Nvidia's download server" (a1437.d.akamai.net [96.7.54.107]) is an Akamai server, which is not in the US, but somewhere in Asia:

Latest resolvalbe traceroute hop is 'telekommalaysia-ic-155127-hnk-b2.c.telia.net' ... so Malaysia or HNK (Hong Kong)?

My ping time to that server is more than 300 ms, so far far away from Europe.

What is your happy eyeball logging?

I'm checking the logs on a computer that's on that network right now (I'm currently remote from it) but I don't see happyeyeballs there? Here are the logs if you need them:

Your log says:

Code: Select all

2016-05-25 06:04:20,663::INFO::[sabnzbd:1263] SABnzbd.exe-0.7.20
0.7.20? Shame on you! >:D

Upgrade to current SAB, which is 1.0.2. Note: I believe you can only upgrade if the queue is empty (not sure about this).

That's what I thought! Lol. That's my Dad's computer and that explains why it has a lower version. I just upgraded to 1.0.2 and will post back for the logs later.

Here's what I have now:

2016-05-25 18:59:53,585::INFO::[happyeyeballs:111] Quickest IP address for news.newshosting.com (port 119, ssl 0, preferipv6 True) is 69.16.179.28
2016-05-25 18:59:53,585::DEBUG::[happyeyeballs:113] Happy Eyeballs lookup took 241.309926092 microseconds
2016-05-25 18:59:53,585::DEBUG::[downloader:121] For server news.newshosting.com, using IP 69.16.179.28 as server

So it does pretty much resemble the ping latency. Do you have other ideas?

You mean other than contacting Newhosting?

From a technical point of view I'm interested if the ping time determines the maximum download speed. There is a rule / formula about delay (aka ping), number of open packets, MTU size and resulting download speed.
So ... you could find a newsserver close to you (so: low ping) and add that (with a free temp account, for example), and measure again.

From a user perspective I would say 6 MB/s = 55 Mbps gives a download speed higher than you can watch HD movies .

Yup.

Ok, I'll see if I can find a news server that's close to my place.

That's right but the thing is I want to download from Usenet at full speed. I mean it's what I paid for, so :)
