So you have IPv6, it works over port 80 and over port 23 (telnet).
It does not work over port 119. Or, at least, not trying to connect to newszilla6.

Can you reach newszilla.xs4all.nl (no 6, so plain ipv4) via news / usenet / 119 ? Just to check port 119 is blocked by your firewall or ISP ...
how do i go about doing this? can i do this through telnet?

i try telnet newszilla.xs4all.nl 119 but get timed out

Oh? Time-out?

I get this:

Code: Select all

201 dreader36.news.xs4all.nl NNRP Service Ready - newsmaster@xs4all.nl (no posting).
So that means 119 is blocked for you (regardless of IPv6 or IPv4), doesn't it? EDIT: ... I should add "... with telnet".

Do you have any working newsserver connection within SABnzbd? If so, can you access that server with "telnet <server> 119".

unfortunately i do not.. but it looks like the signs are pointing to 119 being blocked...

Oh? Are you on your home network, or on a company/controlled network with a corporate firewall etc?

OK. Then you should first focus on gettin an / any IPv4 newsserver enabled, meaning: no time-out. As soon as that works, proceed to IPv6.

So, fill out "newsreader3.eweka.nl" with 1 connection and no username/password (as you don't have that) as newsserver in SABnzbd, click on Test Server. That gives you a time-out, right? If so: solve that first. It might be your own firewall or your ISP blocking News / Usenet. So I would de-install and remove your Windows firewall (so not just disable it), reboot, and then try again. If that doesn't solve it, take your PC to someone with another ISP, and test there.

Start a separate thread.
