After a lot of testing this weekend I can conclude that the problem no longer persists.
I did two things to solve this:
- removed an old USB stick in the back of my DS212J
- installed a patch that was send to my by synology support.
After receiving the patch I asked support if I needed to reinstall the patch when a new firmware would be releases. The answer was:

The latest DSM is 4.0-2228 and launched 10 days ago, you can download it here:

Once it is applied onto Diskstation, it doesn't need to apply again.

The thing is, that my DS was already updated to 2228. Therefore, it seems logic that only the old USB stick was the cause of all this. Hopefully this helps other people with the same issue.
