use of vpn

Post by bigrig0424 »

Hellow. I installed sabnxzbd on windows vista home prem. also installed couch potato. and set up. was able to access sabnzbd from another computer on my network just fine using ipaddress:8080/sabnzbd/. great all working fine. desided to install a vpn service dathovpn. well when i did this. of course i get a new ip address. and sabnzbd is also getting a new ip address. and all goes to heck. I gress what i am asking is can you use sabnzbd and couchpotato with a vpn, and what is the best way to set up. at this point i can no longer access sabnzbd even using the new ip address. thinking this is a privit ip address. will prop have to change the ip address in couchpotato to point to new address in sabnzbd. maby this will work have not tryed. I guess my question here. is there a better way to do this. was wanting to use a vpn. but not sure how to set up. if you can. Thanks in advance

Interesting.

Worth trying (I don't know if it works): via IPv6. On your Vista machine, open a CMD box, and type "ipconfig". It will show, among others, a FE80:: address on your LAN interface "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection", for example fe80::1af4:6aff:fe9c:ced4.

Can you try that, thus for example via http://[fe80::1af4:6aff:fe9c:ced4]:8080/ ? Note the square brackets [ ] around the IPv6 address.

no sorry i do not have this as a option. i went in to my system reg. and turned off the use of ipv6. I did this because i have
read online someware that this is used for spying on your online activity. i have only ip4 running. sorry. guess i will have
to be happy with running on server its self. If i figure out away around this i will post here. I want to say i read somplace
to set up in a vm and run that way. but i have not yet tryed. thanks again for your quick reply. I just now saw this because i started
to look for it. Thought i would get a email when a post was answered.

You should use the special IP address 0.0.0.0 in SABnzbd's Config->General.
Keep in mind that you will have to establish the VPN connection before starting SABnzbd.
SABnzbd cannot deal with its IP address changing on-the-fly.
