Do you experience problems during downloading?
Check your connection in Status and Interface settings window.
Use Test Server in Config > Servers.
We will probably ask you to do a test using only basic settings.

I have a lot of downloads that are appearing in my queue and appear to download. For example....
Ubunutu ISO - 303MB of 1254MB
Once completed it moves to the History pane with the message "Download failed - Out of your server's retention?". Mostly this is true (found it's been wrong a couple of times) but the question I have is what is it downloading in the initial queue? Multiple gigabytes of nothing? Or is it lying?

Ubuntu.ISO is formed of 50 files, say 50MB Each. My NTP Server is missing all of them. Sabnzbd searches for the first one, not found, update progress bar to 50MB done, and so on for each missing file.
