sabnzbd with VPN no speed

Hi all,

First I'd like to say thank you for sabnzbd. I've been using this for 2 years with usenetserver with very little hiccups.

I just got Fios with 50/25 MB/s and which improved my speed from 10/1 tremendously from my previous cable provider (was at 1.2 MB/s download). I then signed up for a VPN service via PIA for torrenting and when it's connected, the sabnzbd just stop running as in --KB/s. When I disconnect the VPN, the speed would go upward to about 6.9 MB/s.

I'm not an expert at this but did follow a lot of instructions when I first set up my sabnzbd. I've also changed my connection from 20 to 12 and it didn't help. This only happens when i'm connected to VPN. I'd would like to have VPN connected at all times.

I'm running on Win 7 64-bit

Does your VPN take over all internet traffic or do you now have a dual network?
In the latter case SABnzbd doesn't know how to pick one over the other.
You may have to setup some routing rules on your system.

I only have the VPN running on one pc that's doing SABnzbd, torrent, sickbeard and couchpotato so I can assume that I'm in the dual network category. I looked at the guide you posted and have no idea what it means. I will do more research about routing table, but when you stated that I may have to setup some routing rules, where would I set that? On the pc or somewhere in SABnzbd?

The trick is to lookup the numerical IP address of your Usenet provider and the IP of your VPN.
Then you need to tell Windows to send traffic for that IP address to the VPN connection.
route -p add IP-OF-YOUR-USENET-SERVER mask 255.255.255.0 IP-OF-YOUR-VPN metric 1

It is rather complicated.

Now I need to go search for the IP's. Will post the result.

I'm wondering if others are experiencing the same slow issue connecting to VPN.
I really didn't see a lot of results when I googled it.

SABnzbd cannot resolve it, you need the "static routing" trick.
