MAC Download Speed Issues

Post by Glassy80 »

Hi All,

I have recently started using sab on my PC and it works a treat. The PC is connected to a wireless hub via a network cable and then it downloads stuff directly onto my Seagate NAS drive which is also connected to the same router via a network cable. It works absolutely perfectly this way, no issues

Now if I download from my MAC book pro onto the same Seagate NAS drive the speeds drop dramatically. On the PC is takes maybe 2 minutes to download something that is 700MB but the same file from the same source takes 30-40 minutes from the MAC. The MAC is only connected via wireless but it doesn't have a network port to test if its definitely an issue because its connected via wireless.

Basically has has anyone else got the same setup. Wireless MAC downloading directly onto a NAS drive that is connected to the wireless router via a network cable.

Do you connect to the NAS through SMB (Windows protocol) or AFP?
AFAIK Mavericks has speed issues with SMB shares.

Hi, thank for the reply!

How would I check how I connect to the NAS drive? The NAS drive is connected to the router via a cable, and the mac where I download stuff from is connected to the same router via wireless. The issue is only happening when I download from the MAC to the NAS.

In the Finder you should see the NAS listed twice: once with (SMB) and once with (AFP).
If it's only listed once and you connect to the same sahre with a Windows PC, you're probably using SMB.

Yes, because it''s a Mavericks issue. Try googling for a solution, it's independent of SABnzbd.

Right, it's listed twice but mainly because I added it manually. By default it was only listed the once, so I assume that means its via smb. Is there anyway of me confirming that? Options or something else?

Ok excuse my ignorance, Mavericks is what the MAC uses to communicate with the NAS drive?

Mavericks is the latest version of Apple's operating system OS X (version 10.9).
In Finder, you should see the server name under "Shared", with (AFP) as post fix.
