Sabnzbd starts downloading then dl-rate suddenly drops

Post by icy snow »

Hello,

I started using sabnzbd yesterday, and everything went fine. Today I started it up again, and everytime I start downloading something, the dl-rate would go to my max 700kb/s at first, and then suddenly drop to 0 for about 5 minutes, then start downloading again. I only download one file at a time and rebooted multiple times. I also tried "repairing the queue" in options, and it didnt fix a thing.
My system is a Win7-64 bit PC, and the browser I'm using is the latest Chrome.

Don't you have an ISP that throttles "heavy" users?

Similar issue for me too. Usually on a medium to large download (>7 or 8gb) it will frequently complete most of the download and then drop to crawling along at 0 - 2 kb for the remainder.

I'm on EE (Orange) and can download similar sized files without issue (for example on megaupload type servers).

Haven't buggered about with the settings so it's pretty much a straight install. Ideas?

cheers

Which Usenet provider do you use?
With Astraweb, I sometimes see something similar (but it resolves within minutes),
but with Supernews/Giganews I never have this.

Hi everyone,

I have the exact same problem since yesterday!

I updated from 0.6.7 (I think) to 0.7.16 and now my dl-rate drops after 10 sec to a few KB/s.
My system is OS X 10.6.8 with safari 5.1.10. But same issues with all other browsers.

It seems that supernews web server (http://www.supernews.com) is down right now, but their news server (news.supernews.com / news.eu.supernews.com) work if I test them with sab.

Maybe it is a connection problem?
I had some maximum connections warnings that I could not explain. After checking server connections on the server options page it sometimes says

http://localhost:8080
481 (remote) (aucl:supernews.com;186469) exceeded maximum number of connections per user

My connections are set to 30 (max). I also tried 20 and 10. Nothing changed.
Maybe sab has problems with sending a quit command after finishing downloaded files? I think their was a problem like this in an early version of sab.

I check out how it works on my windows system...

Thanks for any ideas

I'm not saying it doesn't happen in your situation, but there's nothing inherent in SABnzbd that causes this.
I can always max out by 100 Mbit/sec (equaling 10.2 MByte/sec) connection using either AstraWeb or Supernews.
Only my slow Atom-based mini-server maxes out at 7 MByte/sec.
Do you have an article cache in Config->General? It should be at least 256M on "normal" systems.
