Hello, it appears that SAB is holding open connections to the news servers I have configured, and during the process of downloading a larger queue, the connections being used progressively get smaller, until one server has timed out and the other is only using one-two active connections. The error/time out on the server not being used is usually something like "# Connections: Failed to connect: (-1, 'Unexpected EOF') 20@69.16.179.28:563".
If I do a netstat in a cmd prompt, a large number of nntps connections show up as established.
If I pause, I have the server switch "Disconnect on Empty Queue" checked, but the connections stay open. They also stay open after a restart of SAB. I have to restart Windows to enable SAB to use all available connections again. I have 20 connections set for both primary servers, and will get between 3-3.5 MB/s when starting, but after the connections issue, I only get around 1-1.5 MB/s from one server.
I'm using SAB 0.7.14 and Windows 8. I have two primary servers and one fill backup server configured.
Any ideas as to what is happening, what I can change to get this resolved? Thanks!

Re: Connections being held open
Interesting.
Do you mean netstat stills shows open NNTPS connections after closing SAB?
Does it also happen when you only use NNTP?
Does it also happen if you lower the number of connections to 5 per server?

Re: Connections being held open
I just checked, and did a shutdown during a download, and yes, the NNTPS connections stay established even 5 minutes later when I did a netstat.
I have not tried to use NNTP, and would prefer to continue using SSL for my connection to the news providers. I will however try to use NNTP and let you know what happens.
I have lowered my connections to 5 and 10 previously and find that my max download speed decreases initially and the issue will still happen with connections.

Re: Connections being held open
Also, I do not remember having this issue with Windows 7, only when I upgraded to Windows 8.
Re: Connections being held open
Check Config->Switches->Disconnect on pause
Re: Connections being held open
I believe I have figured out the issue. It appears that Avast was holding open the connections. It had NNTP scanning checked by default, I disabled any scanning related to it in Avast, and have not seen the issue in a few days. I'm consistently getting 19-20 connections on both providers.
