Issues with email notification

Anyone having issues with email notification when using the Gmail SMTP server? All of a sudden I stopped getting all email notifications. If I attempt to send a test email, it spins on "Verifying" for a few minutes and then errors out. After each test attempt, I get an error in the log saying: Failed to connect to mail server.

My settings are as follows:

SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
Optional Account Username: <my_gmail_user>@gmail.com
Optional Account Password: <my_password>

Did Comcast (my ISP) start blocking SMTP traffic??

Never mind -- somehow I managed to delete the port number (587) at the end of the server address. All is well now.
