0.7.9 - Backup servers not working correctly

Post by d3lirial »

Sab 0.7.9 on LinuxMint 14.1 - installed from JFCP's PPA

I have been using 1 primary server (global provider) and 3 backup servers (2 global providers and 1 holland provider).

Lately the odd download has fallen short a few parts or failed as being possibly out of server retention. Considering the comments left on the trackers I use, I thought this was weird - I am using global providers and holland providers to try and get the best outcome. My holland server wasn't being used at all, which is the most unique among my servers and I expected it to get these particular missing parts.

I tried setting my primary to optional and retrying a short nzb - no success.
I tried restarting sab with the optional & primary setup.
I disabled all servers except the holland based and the file downloaded perfectly no issues at all.

The only thing that stands out in the logs is quite a few 'forcing disconnect' - I've never clicked the force disconnect button.
To be clear - mostly everything downloads fine - those that have been getting removed lately are the issue - where the backup servers should kick in.

Any ideas? Let me know if I can provide anything further.

There's no general anwser.
When I recently added another (less well-known) backup server, I suddenly could download stuff I could not before.
Try to get a specific example NZB and tell which providers you are using.
Email to bugs@sabnzbd.org (and add the URL of this message.)

Thanks Shypike,

I've sent you the details.
I understand about the difference between servers just being a bit unknown, but the point here is that:

I did not change servers at all... I had all 4 working (3 as backup) and disabling 3 of them and making the holland 1 a primary rather than a backup worked.

Similar problem here,
I have multiple servers configured (no backup/optional, all enabled),
and sometimes when a file gets taken down from some servers, sabnzbd apparently doesn't try to download it from the rest (which have it).

Disabling only the server which reports the file missing solves the problem but it would be a bad solution to always leave it disabled..

Is there some relevant setting I could change or is this a bug?

Originally i encountered the problem at 0.7.9
Just updated to 0.7.10 - same problem.

Before 0.7.9, i was at 0.7.6 and i had a backup of this installation,
so I moved back to 0.7.6 and there the download is fine.
After comparing the ini files (of my 0.7.6 installation and 0.7.9) the only difference is the addition of the following lines:

Code: Select all

warn_empty_nzb = 1
wait_for_dfolder = 0
fail_hopeless = 0
web_watchdog = 0
Could the problem have something to do with these parameters?

The settings are not relevant here: all new features, off by default.

I'm currently investigating simlar complaints with someone who's ISP news server we suspect of
substituting taken down articles with fakes that make SABnzbd handle them as real articles.
The problem is, I cannot reach his news server, so I have to work with him getting raw articles from the server.

How is the option "Fail on yenc crc Errors" in Config->Switches set?
If it's off, set it on and try again.
I'm not sure this will help, but it's worth a try.

"Fail on yenc crc Errors" was on.

Looking at the log file, its mostly like "Article XXX@eu.news.astraweb.com missing (error=430)"
And since after downgrading to 0.7.6 the problem vanished, it seems at least the problem i encountered is due to some change in the recent versions?

A recent change was that DMCA notifications are detected better.
Can you PM me some of these full article numbers, including which server(s) you are using?

To close this - it has been fixed in 7.11 - I was lucky enough to have one of the rare Usenet servers as mentioned in the bug fix release.

Thanks a lot Shypike - you were very easy to deal with! :)

Lucky?
I guess I'm lucky that you were also able to report it in sufficient detail.
Thanks.
