RSS feeds questions

Post by sparker366 »

Well I am new to sab and its a bit daunting for me.

RSS feeds are hit or miss for me from my nzb provider. Sometimes they work other times they don't but I feel that is on there end not sab.

I am using an rss feed for my cart from the site. Load the nzb's into my cart have sab read the feed and then download. Well I put the feed url in set the filter to be *.*, which I am unsure of, I don't use catagories not sure what else needs to be set. When the feed does work it loads and starts downloading them but when completed it doesn't unpack the rars. I have the processing set to download does that only just download do I need to leave it at default and that will download and unpack?

Is there like a beginners guide to sab that I can look at. I came from newsleecher and that was getting buggy for me friends told me about sab so I gave it a try. I like it but still can't get a good grasp of it.

"Download" does just that, download.
The normal setting is "+Delete" which does everything.
The filters are used to select jobs from an RSS feed.
If you want it all (typically for bookmark feeds), you'll need only one filter: Accept *
If you just want one show, use: Accept *my fav show*

Ok +delete worked Thks.

Now I have an issue with loading the feed. The down arrow button next to the pause resume button has a read all feeds now link. I use that and it doesn't load the feed. I have to click on rss then read feed to get the feed to load. Again am I doing something incorrect. I just download stuff not concerned about a specific show or anything. Its just what floats my boat. So I load my cart up and then just want to download it. Thought the RSS feed would be the quicker way then downloading the nzbs and have sab scan the folder.

You need to enable a feed first, otherwise it won't be scanned.
Have you read the Wiki page on the subject? http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/configure-rss-0-7

Yes its enabled. I have a check in the check box. Is there something else I am missing about enabling it?

What's your reading interval (bottom of RSS main page)?
Why do you think it doesn't work?
For each new RSS feed the rule is that the initial batch is not automatically downloaded.
If you want to download the initial backlog, use "Force download".
New matching items in each automatic readout will be downloaded.

Well since its a cart when the feed is read the cart is emptied and then I put new items in the cart so everything is new in the feed. The interval is 15 which is fine but I always use the read feed link next to the pause/resume button.

I just put 3 items into my cart went into the RSS feed page and clicked on read feed and its not pulling anything.Waited about 3 mins and clicked on the read feed link and it pulled the cart feed. So I have a feeling it might be the nzb providers server is having issues. They are a very heavily used site and its a slow site. Just may have to be a bit more patient and if it doesn't work go back to downloading and using the watched folder.

Thanks for the help just frustrating as the cart is so nice and the feed makes things clean and easy.

The easiest way to double-check is to paste the RSS URL in the browser's address bar.
You'll see a representation of the content of the feed.

Well FF takes me to google reader page and chrome does displays some raw xml but there is no items from my cart in there. Strange behavior on my browsers as everyone else can see the feeds fine. Now google reader shows me nothing current from the feed. It looks like they are old entries I had. Now putting the feed into Thunderbird it show the 2 items I added to my cart just a few minutes ago to test this out. I will use thunderbird to make sure the feed is correct.

Again this could very well be a provider issue with a server overload. As the stuff I just loaded into my cart was brought over to SAB no problems.

Again thanks for all the help. You have given me a better understanding of feeds and such

Does the feed ever show any visible items in SABnzbd?
If not, it might be that they use some bizarre RSS format in which SABnzbd cannot find downloadable items.

Yes when it works it pulls my cart items over just fine. Again its hit or miss with SAB but I am thinking its a server problem on there end not serving the feed due to load issues.

I just want to add if I shut SAB down then restart it all works fine. Been doing that on and off and my feed pulls just fine. It seems that if I grab some stuff let it complete then go fill my cart again it doesn't pull the feed.
