Password Mac

Post by roopa123 »

Hi. For so long the username and password for sab were automatically filled in and I never had to type them in - now they've disappeared and I can't remember what they were, how to find them again or even reset them.

I have searched the forums and most suggest finding the .ini file but I can't seem to find this in my Mac.

Any help please? I'd rather learn how to sort this out rather than install a new sab.

Thanks :)

Go to the SABnzbd icon in the op menu bar (down arrow). Select Troubleshoot->"Restart - no login".

Sorry, what's an 'op menu bar''?

Thanks for your reply.

You don't need a password to get it running.
Start up the app, you'll get a browser windows asking for a password.
Ignore that, and go to the arrow icon in the top menu and pick Troubleshoot-Restart-no-login.

Use the Activity Monitor to see if SABnzb is running at all. It should when it shows this warning.

Since in your screenshot there is no icon, I suspect that you installed the wrong version for your operating system.
The DMG has three flavours: (Snow)Leopard, Lion and MountainLIon.
Make sure that you installed the right one for your OSX version.

I have the same problem... i can't login to sabnzbd.... is there a way to remove the app completely and delete the directory so i can just start from scratch? I want to reinstall it and go through the setup wizard so i can set a new password.

/Users/user/Library/Application Support/SABnzbd/sabnzbd.ini does not exist on my Mac. I looked in the /Users/user/Library/Application Support/ dir... but no /SABnzbd/ folder... :( I'll also check my keychain on the Mac... maybe I need to clear it out of there or something. This is getting really annoying.

That means if never ran.
Open a Terminal (Applications->Utilities).
Type:
/Applications/SABnzbd.app/Contents/MacOS/SABnzbd --console
Enter
What happens?

It looks like it stops right after it start, odd.
Try this, so that you get more information:
/Applications/SABnzbd.app/Contents/MacOS/SABnzbd --console -l2

That last parameter is "minus ell two"

Same result... it keeps prompting for a username and password... oh well... i'm just going to reinstall OS X... this is a brand new iMac so i wanted to reinstall the OS anyways because I restored from Time Machine. But that Time Machine external drive was from my MacBook and I don't like how the name of the MacBook shows up on my new iMac. Thank you for your help... I appreciate your efforts.

Ok... I figured it out... this is what I did:

Quit SABnzbd process in the "Activity Monitor"
Open Terminal and type:
/Applications/SABnzbd.app/Contents/MacOS/SABnzbd --console

I noticed this line:
INFO:root:Read INI file /Users/{user}/Library/Application Support/SABnzbd/sabnzbd.ini

Back in Terminal I typed:
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder
(this shows "Hidden" files)

Then just go to the directory /Users/{user}/Library/Application Support/SABnzbd/ and edit the sabnzbd.ini file and change the password in the file.

Run SABnzbd app and login with the new password. Go to "Config" then "General" then remove the "SABnzbd Username" and "SABnzbd Password"

To hide "Hidden" files again, in the Terminal, type:
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder
(this hides "Hidden" files)

Thanks to shypike for pointing me in the right direction... could not have done it without you.
