Can't open files after download

Post by Razzia »

Hi

I have a weird problem with my sabnzbd, I hope you can help.

I have a Via Epia running as my file server, and this is also the machine I use sabnzbd on. Download and extraction works perfect. I run Windows XP on both my server and on my workstation. When files are downloaded and extracted, sabnzbd puts them in a shared folder. I use my workstation to play videofiles/music files from the network, but lately I have had a problem with .nfo and .mp3 files.

I can't open, delete or move these file types. I have full access to all other files.

The problem only exists with files downloaded with sabnzbd. If I download something with torrent, I have no problem opening and editing files. It seems, that sabnzbd locks the files somehow. The files I download are not corrupt. I just tried moving the files from the server to a USB stick and then played them on my workstation. Worked great. After that, I copied the files back to the server from my workstation and now I can open them using the network.

Do you guys have a clue about whats wrong, and how I fix it?

Thanks for your help.

(I run sabnzbd 0.4.4 on Windows XP)

What happens if you just close SABnzbd?
Are the files accessible then?

Try to find out what's happening using tools like SysInternals.
Some of these tools tell you which application blocks files.

I does not change anything, if I shutdown sabnzbd. I still can't open files over the network.

I haven't tried Sysinternals yet (couldn't figure out which tool to download), but I have tried Unlocker with no luck. It claims, that the files isn't locked.

It is only over lan I can't open the files. On the server they work as the should. Usually I would think it had something to do with network permissions, but it is only .mp3 and .nfo downloaded with sabnzbd that have this problem.

SABnzbd creates all files equal and often files are not even created by SABnzbd itself
but by unrar or unzip.
In fact SABnzbd doesn't do anything with access rights, relying completely on the
inherited settings of the base directory (being the "completed" folder).

Do the files come from RAR files? If so, maybe the creator added weird ACL settings.

Try to unzip or unrar an archive file containing mp3 files on the server and see how that behaves.
Under which user account does SABnzbd run?

Have you checked both layers of permissions?
Level 1 : local permissions as stored in NTFS
Level 2 : share permissions
Go into the properties of the MP3 file both locally on the server and remote on the client
and examine all security settings carefully. Escpecially "effective permissions".
