Downloads 1.8GB file, completes with only 524KB!!

Post by justin0469 »

I"m trying to download a file that's about 1.8GB using SickBeard for searching and passing it to sabNZBd for download. sabNZBd says the file is about 1.8GB, downloads it in about 30 seconds and says the file is 534kb.

I've tried 3 different search providers just to make sure one wasn't providing me with a pointer to a bad file. Same result.

What's wrong?

Update:

The logs show "1989 articles were missing"

and a whole lot of

"missing from all servers, discarding"

I finally forced it to pick another file to download with the same result.

So: the cause is clear to you?

FWIW: You could consider turning on the Pre-Download Check; in cases like this, SAB will detect the non-availability on your newsserver, and will not try to download it.

Is something like this temporary? Even other files for the same show have the same outcome.

No: they have been removed due to DMCA (or just out of your server's retention)

This is how the DMCA stuff works:
- the content owner finds all the posts of his show, just in the way you do it: binsearch, forums, closed forums
- content owner sends his DMCA notice to the newsserver providers
- newsserver providers remove the content

Workaround: find an obscure, non-American newsserver provider

Other workaround: live in a country where downloading audio and video content for personal use is just legal.

Thanks, I was wondering about that. So I'd need to find an obscure, non-American search provider or Usenet downloading/access provider? I assume the search provider. Any suggestions?

No, search provider does not matter: they keep showing what they say x days ago, no matter if the content has been removed.

So you need an obscure, non-American newsserver provider that is NOT a front-end for a big newsserver provider.

If you PM me with the link to the NZB, I can try on my Netherlands provider.

Sure, I'll do that shortly. I can't seem to find a block-based Netherlands or non-US or non-EU Usenet provider. I have to imagine this is a common thing people look for...any suggestions?

Is this list any good?
http://www.ngprovider.com/newsgroups-be ... ccount.php

Looks like they are covers for Highwinds, Astraweb and Readnews. I know Astraweb is big so I'll skip that but what about Highwinds or Readnews?

I'm now downloading the .NZB you PMed: pre-check went OK, and the real download is now half way without any missing article. However:
- I have 5+ different newsservers activated, so hard to tell which server has what available
- The download is slow, so probably one of the slower, free, obscure servers has the post available. And I guess I can say the pay server Eweka does not have the post.

EDIT:

Update: the download went well. So: *some* newsservers have the post available

Thanks for assist. I found that cheapnews does have it via a free trial. They have a special right now for 500GB block for 20 euro. Perfect backup for me. Thanks for your help.

I was looking at XSnews but their website looked like it was jacked up so I wasn't sure how good their service was.

I swear 2 hours ago half their images were missing and covered in SQL errors. I tried 2 - 3 times after that and no luck. Now it looks good though.
