Download smaller files in NZB first?

Post by sab12397 »

When you add an NZB would it be possible to have the option (or for it do by default) download the smaller type files listed in the NZB first?

Thanks

No.
This makes no sense for the way SABnzbd is typically used.
Which is auto-processing of jobs consisting of RAR and PAR2 files.
There the order that SABnzbd uses is the best.
Of course there are exceptions. but it would be too complicated to implement this
let alone offer it in the UI in an intuitive way.

I was searching for this very feature and to my dissapointment...

I would really like this feature to prioritise small files first such as sfv, nfo, txts, jpgs first in the queue. Instead I found out I can pause imported downloads and then manually move them to the top of the queue but this defeats sabnzdb as the whole point of it was to automate dls to user preference.

So far, I haven't seen a convincing reason to have such a feature.
You know, it's not very motivating to implement obscure features
without knowing what people intend to do with them.

I can see this option being used to save downloading a huge post that you may not want.

Review text files and images files first if not what I was expecting I can just remove from queue.

Would be a great feature and would probably not even need an option just always download small files first.

That's the main preference of it. I agree, the ability to review the incoming dl would be extremely nice! I mean I do it already but would like to automate it rather than manually go into each queue file and move them up.

I know Alt.Binz usenet client has an option in their interface to dl small files first on queue sort. SABnzbd could have this feature also considering how many other more features it already has.

Other reasons

for original file keeps when multi-thread downloading, time stamps sort would look less messy.
on xfers to other client locations having sfv dl first would be most beneficial for progs that do sfv checksum checks for transfer.

I can understand peeking at NFO files at the start of a large download.
The use case of doing things (like transferring files) from the temporary download folder
is very much against the whole idea of SABnzbd.
Which is why I'm not very supportive of it.
Other than that, "small file" is a rather arbitrary definition.

I understand everything can't be implemented but when loading the NZB could nfo/jpg/png/txt files be moved to the top so they are processed first?

Or for a bit more flexibility a special setting where you specify how many MB a largest small file would be and they are all moved to the top?

Or specify the extensions to be downloaded first?

precisely!

I think clarifying file type extensions would be the easiest configuration option for the files to be moved to the top of the pack queue. eg; nfo|diz|sfv|m3u|cue|jpg|png|par|par2|avi|mp4|mkv

...etc

It's implemented as a Config->Special item called "prio_sort_list".
