Failing on movie downloads - TV shows OK

Post by craigcurtin »

Guys,

I run SAB under windows 7 on a virtual machine and have been running it fine for the last year or so. (Fantastic program by the way !!)

Recently upgraded to 0.7.3

I download all my TV shows in High Def and they work fine. Recently - nearly all of my movie downloads are failing. My TV shows are all fed in through Sickbeard

I downloaded to a mapped drive from a SMB share on linux.

I am gettiing the dreaded CRC errors.

I have followed through the sticky on the things to try and it is not working - i do not believe i can have a memory issue as it is a virtual machine and hence it would show a lot more dramatically if the host had memory issues (i.e. Virtual Machines crashing etc)

The VM is locked down with no windows updates etc applied so i do not think anything has changed there.

I just retried a download that had failed and within 5 seconds it came back with a CRC error - when i look at the logs in debug it is supposedly verifying a 9GB MKV of RARS within 5 seconds before getting the failure - so i think there is something else going on here

I have a primary server usenetserver.com and a backup of eu.blocknews - i use SSL to connect

I can not work out how to attach a log file to this message ?

Do you get the CRC error from unrar?
Chances are that the poster just uploaded damaged material.
You can disable QuickCheck in Config->Switches.
In that case, the external par2 program will always be used and double-checked with QuickCheck.
Any differences will be reported as a warning.
Please report if that happens.

Sorry - i should have been clearer - i have followed through the various post on this forum about the likely cause of CRC errors and have tried all the combinations of different switches for helping - so yes i do have Quickcheck disabled.

yes the CRC errors are coming at the unrar stage - but when i check my logs in debug mode they are happening within 5 seconds of telling the program to retry - this seems to be a bit unbelievable as i would assume it would have to unrar all the files to recreate the MKV - it is consistently happening across multiple downloads.

The failures i am experiencing are across the last 9 movies i have tried to download - only one has succeeded so i would find it hard to believe that all of them are suddenly bad uploads. ?

What happens if you let WinRAR have a go at the RAR files?

I have run 7Zip on the files and they do fail with a single error on various members of the set (but it is variable and can take a long time to process until it stops) whereas SAB (acording to the logs0 fails within 5 seconds.

My question is why - if i have a backup source then the missing/corrupted parts are either not detected during download or redownloaded once i do a retry ?

unrar may be faster at detecting problems than 7zip.
It is completely up to unrar to decide on the usability of RAR files,
SABnzbd has no say in the matter.
It wouldn't be the first time that a poster starts out with corrupt RAR files
and then applies par2.

The only way to prove my assumption wrong is to download all files without post-processing
and then letting QuickPar and WinRAR have a go at the resulting RAR and PAR2 files.
I would be very interested if it turned out that the post is valid after all.
