Recommendations for low end Ubuntu box

Post by lucky1981 »

My SABnzbd does not seem to be working (nothing is being downloaded) and it is constantly crashing. I believe it is because of the low memory (I've got really cheap VPS):

SABnzbd 0.7.3, Python Version: 2.7.1+ (r271:86832, Apr 11 2011, 18:13:53) [GCC 4.5.2], Ubuntu 11.04 64bit

Burst / Swap: 256.00 MB
235 MB of 256 MB used / 21 MB free

Are there any recommendations for low end boxes? I would really love to get this working. I have default settings, 9 different Usenet servers, fresh Ubuntu installation. Thanks a lot for any answer!

Hi,

I've SABnzbd running without problems on a 256MB RAM VPS.
However, I must say that, because I only have got 20GB disk space, I only download posts with maximum size 6 - 9GB. So no 40GB BluRay images.

Code: Select all

sander@toverdoos:~$ free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 237 177 60 0 7 83

Swap: 511 72 439

Not sure what could be wrong then. Is this normal?:

Code: Select all

debian@user:~$ free -m

-/+ buffers/cache: 240 15
Swap: 0 0 0

Code: Select all

You have no swap space at all, whereas my system has 512MB swap (see the last line of "free -m"). No swap means a hard limit, causing the problems you see.

And you have only 15MB RAM space left (last number of the line "-/+ buffers/cache:") ... so that leaves little room.

I cannot create swap space, because OpenVZ environment does not allow me to do that. I had to drop SABnzbd and go for hellanzb.
You can close the thread now.

Hellanzb uses less memory?
