Move only after extract/repair

Post by CoAX »

Hello,

New user here. I am very impressed by what sabnzbd can do and its flexibility.
I am especially grateful for the interaction with CouchPotato and SickBeard.

Speaking of CouchPotato, I have set my movie category to land on a network drive.
The network drive is actually a DroboShare which is very slow. Especially for local operations like PAR check, repair or even extraction.
The problem is that SABnzbd moves the files to the destination first and then goes on to check, repair and extract.
How do I tell SABnzbd to first repair & extract locally *and then* move to the network drive?
This would be a lot more efficient.

Thanks!

Quite simple.
Set a local location for "temporary download folder" in Config->Folders.

I do have such a location and it is local.
I use a category for movies coming from CouchPotato and this category has its own folder (drobo).
It seems like having a category will move files to the specified folder and then go on with repair and extract.

No, all download and repair is done in the temporary download folder, independent of any category.
Unpacking goes from temp folder to Drobo folder.
I don't know what CoachPotato does with the result.

I tried looking at the log to show you that some decent i/o activity is going on to my network drive but no real proof there.
What I saw though was a real slow unpacking (20 mins) and a temp folder on my network drive with the UNPACK prefix.
I'll have move stuff myself it's not a big deal but it removes some of the magical automation that SABnzbd provides.
Because when this happens, the drobo slows down to a crawl and I can't even read movies anymore (yeah it's that bad).
Let me know if you see a way for me to diagnose some more and/or force another kind of behavior.

Thanks a lot anyway!

The unpack folder is renamed at the end of the process.

For CouchPotatoServer (AKA CouchPotato 2), I would suggest having SABnzbd extract the final movie to a location not on the network (Droboshare) i.e extarct to a local drive.
Make sure that your location for "temporary download folder" in Config->Folders is definately set to a local drive.

Then configure CouchPotato renamer to do the move (set in the renamer page) from the completed movie folder to the final (Droboshare) location. This way you can be sure all renaming and extracting is done on a local drive. If this still causes Droboshare to bog down, then the limitation is on your network/Droboshare and not in SABnzbd processing.

SickBeard can be configured the same way in case you run into issue with that.

Also, to avoid SickBeard and CouchPotato constantly scanning your network shares etc for completed media, you can set up postprocessing. Sickbeard comes with a built in "sabToSickBeard.py" script and I have created a "sabToCouchPotato.py" that can be found on the CouchPotato forums http://couchpota.to/forum/showthread.php?tid=343, but the default renamer should do what you want.
