After assembling my new computer I enabled some performance-monitoring gadgets in Ubuntu. To my disappointment I saw that whenever SABnzbd+ finishes downloading a 50MB .rar-file it halts downloading completely for ~20 seconds. When you compare this to the ~80 seconds it takes to download the file then the in-line decoding adds ~25% to my downloading-times. I have buffering set to 256MB
The symptom is as follows: As soon as the articles are downloaded, one core pegs 100%, download-speed drops to 0kB/s until the file is assembled.
I've also noticed that if I alter the configuration and save then the same happens, but then the downloading stops for up-to a couple of minutes.
I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to improve this...
My system:
Intel C2Q 2.67GHz w/ 8GB RAM
SABnzbd+ 0.4.4
Ubuntu 8.10 alpha 6 x86_64 (need Intrepid because my computer has the Intel G45 chipset)

Stuttering downloading

Re: Stuttering downloading
Do you have a slow hard drive?
The queue between the downloader and the assembler is limited, so if writing to disk
takes very long, the downloader is forced to stop.
The memory cache is independant of this, in practice about 70M is sufficient, because
no more than 1.5 file is ever in memory.
It could be that your download speed is so high that the queue becomes a bottleneck.

Re: Stuttering downloading
When you say you have buffering of 256MB are you talking about SABnzbd's article cache in config>general.
Is this value set correctly? for 265MB of cache (bit much but should be ok) it needs to be set to '256M'
Also as shypike asks, what is your download speed and hard drive write speed?
