Hi,
even when downloading typical mac programs, the result is often a rar-folder, containing an exe-file - not suited for Mac. Looked everywhere, no solution found. Help is much appreciated, since those rar files are more and more common.

Check your connection in Status and Interface settings window.
Use Test Server in Config > Servers.

First of all, be suspicious of anything executable.
Ask yourself, why would someone create an exe file and pass it off as something for a Mac?
Second, it may be a self-unpacking RAR file.
In that case an App like Kika would be able to unpack it for you.
