Synology DS212J Slow Download
I have everything up and running but my download speed is only 1mb/sec i should be getting around 6mb/sec. it works fine on pc and im getting the correct speed. but with it on the nas im not getting close. am i doing something wrong? or is there something i can do to make it faster? thanks!
Re: Synology DS212J Slow Download
SABnzbd requires quite a a bit of CPU power and memory.
Your server is no match for your PC.
You can improve things by setting an article cache of about 128M in Config->General.
But only when you have ample memory.
Also, don't overdo it with Usenet server connections, usually about 15 per server is enough.

@Predator04,
Considering what Shypike says, you could try to install and run nzbget on your Synology. Nzbget is less clever and less beautiful than SABnzbd, but it requires less CPU and RAM. I have nzbget running on my old mediaplayer with a 200 Mhz MIPS processor and little RAM, and that works.

Re: Synology DS212J Slow Download
OK i got nzb setup and now getting 2mb a sec. which is better but still isnt good! and it maxes out the cpu. am i doing something wrong or does this box not handle it?
Re: Synology DS212J Slow Download
2 mb a sec or 2 MB a sec (or 2 mB a sec or 2 Mb a sec)?Predator04 wrote:OK i got nzb setup and now getting 2mb a sec. which is better but still isnt good! and it maxes out the cpu. am i doing something wrong or does this box not handle it?
See http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/faq#toc29
2 MBps is 20 Mbps and is nice speed. However, 2 Mbps (small b, thus bits) is very slow.

Re: Synology DS212J Slow Download
I've got a 30 Mbps line (VDSL), and my mediaplayer only gets only 1 MB/s = 10 Mbps with nzbget. So downloading a DVD costs 4200 seconds = a bit more than one hour. No problem so far, however ... unpacking/unrarring can take many, many hours. So I wonder: how long does unpacking/unrarring on your Synology?Predator04 wrote:2MB a sec. i have a 50mbps line. 2MB/sec is slow
Anyway: for fast downloads I use SABnzbd on my laptop: linespeed, and unpacking/unrarring only takes a few minutes.

Re: Synology DS212J Slow Download
Yeah i was hoping to get it all running on one machine. I mean i have a show downloading and running 2 shows and its not lagging at all. im sure the exact time it takes to unpack but its far from a hour. maybe 10min? im not sure exatcly. but if i can just get better speeds this thing would be awesome! if anyone can help that has one or any tweaks that would be great. thank you!
Re: Synology DS212J Slow Download
According to http://www.synology.com/products/spec.p ... #p_submenu and http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.ph ... y_NAS_have your DS212J has a 1.2Ghz ARM Processor (Marvell ARMADA 300), which is not bad at all. Memory is 256MB, which is OK for non-GUI stuff.Predator04 wrote:Yeah i was hoping to get it all running on one machine. So, yes, I too would expect a higher download speed when using NZBget (which is lean-and-mean). However, I do not know how to get it higher than 20 Mbps.
Oh wait: how many connections have you defined in the nzbget config? Check "Server1.Connections=" ...
