Cannot get wizard to open - new install

Post by Baccus49 »

Hi Group,

Update to original post.
I uninstalled and upgrade to SABnzbd-0.6.15-osx-leopard.dmg. Same result.

I'm doing a first time install using SABnzbd-0.6.14-osx-leopard(1).dmg
I get as far as the arrow in the menu bar, which produces this: 127.0.0.1:8080/sabnzbd. The page that opens is blank.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Baccus

Basically the same thing. It says it I can't access the localhost.

I did solve the problem, sort of. I randomly picked a slightly earlier version: SABnzbd-0.6.8-osx-leopard.dmg. <--- THIS ONE WORKED. Could be that some other versions too. I did not test them all. But it does not explain why I am having this problem with the newer versions. I don't see a lot of posting on this issue, so I'm guessing it's not a wide spread issue. Any thoughts?

There seem to be some OSX systems that cannot resolve the "localhost" addresss.
What happens when you open a Terminal windows (Applications->Utilities) and type:
ping localhost

I can ping localhost.
31 packets transmitted, 31 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 0.045/0.059/0.151/0.018 ms

Can you try the 0.7.0Beta2 release?
See Announcement board.

What usually helps is to check the file /etc/hosts
It should have an entry like this:

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1 localhost
It's a system text file.

I have that in localhost. The problem is with the newer versions
This one works for me. But the newer versions do not.
SABnzbd 0.6.8:
https://localhost:9090/sabnzbd/

My localhost:
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost

Make sure SABnzbd is not running.
Open a Terminal window (Applications->Utilities) and type
/Applications/SABnzbd.app/Content/MacOS/SABnzbd -s 127.0.0.1:8080
This should start it up.
Finish the Wizard, stop SABnzbd and start it the normal way.

A fresh install of 6.15 gets as far as the arrow in the menu bar.

Killed SABnzbd using the activity monitor

Ran your code two ways; got this:
Howard:~ Howard$ ~/Applications/SABnzbd.app/Content/MacOS/SABnzbd -s 127.0.0.1:8080
-bash: /Users/Howard/Applications/SABnzbd.app/Content/MacOS/SABnzbd: No such file or directory

Howard:~ Howard$ /Applications/SABnzbd.app/Content/MacOS/SABnzbd -s 127.0.0.1:8080
-bash: /Applications/SABnzbd.app/Content/MacOS/SABnzbd: No such file or directory

Howard:~ Howard$

Strangely when I open the Sabnzbd package with the finder, I can see the file under Contents. If I run from there, I get an arrow in the menu which beach balls.

Tried the Troubleshooting options by the arrow in the menu bar. No Wizard, just an new blank tab.

Do you have the down arrow in the OSX topmenu?
If so, use the troubleshoot entry in the pulldown menu to pick "Restart 127.0.0.1:8080".

Yes, I have the down arrow with version 6.15. Unfortunately, I already did that. See my last reply. I just get a new blank tab. No wizard. As I said earlier, 6.8 installed perfectly. So it is something with my system and 6.15 (as well as 6.14). I have not tried anything from updates 6.9 to 6.13, so I don't know with which update the the problem starts.

If you had SABnzbd installed on your sytem before, you won't get a Wizard.
The alternative is to stop SABnzbd and remove all files from
/Users/YOURNAME/Library/Application Support/SABnzbd
After that SABnzbd shoul understand that it must show the Wizard.
You may want to save sabnzbd.ini from that same folder.

I'm sorry to report I tried that already. Did a clean install -- first removed the old application and the folder /Users/YOURNAME/Library/Application Support/SABnzbd. Installed 6.15. Just get the arrow and the blank screen. Then tried an install over the existing application, same result, arrow and blank screen.

I am using FireFox 11.0 with OS X 10.5.8. I also tried installing it with all addons disabled. That did not work either.

I originally did not have SABnzbd installed. My first attempt was the latest version 6.15, which never got to the wizard. Afterwards, by pure chance, I found that an earlier version, 6.8 did work.
