Repeat downloads of old episodes... TONS of them

Post by deltwalrus »

Been using SABnzbd for years now, coupled with Newzbin. An annoying issue has cropped up recently (last 4 months or so, maybe? not sure). Using the latest version of SABnzbd, and RSS feeds that are verified good and validly formatted, always worked in the past. I am getting repeat downloads of TV episodes to which I have RSS subscriptions (saved searches). These are not new hits for saved searches, SABnzbd is re-downloading things that were posted months or even years ago. Something is not being marked as downloaded. So every so often (weekly, maybe every few days), I notice my media drive is nearly full, because show X has an entire season or three with 4 copies of each episode instead of one.

Please, any tips, anything I've missed, and help at all! I can send logs or configs or anything. At wit's end here, could not find a similar problem here on the forums. ??? ??? ??? ???

Unless you also use the NZB backup folder, SABnzbd will only remember existing RSS downloads
for one week after they disappear from the feed.
For more extensive control you could use a front-end like SickBeard.

Perhaps, but it was not always thus. When did this behavior change? I have never had NZB backups configured and this only recently became a problem.

A couple of versions ago we went from 4 weeks to 1 week retention time.
And some bugs were removed that could cause a huge build-up of old jobs under some circumstances.
So possibly you were "profiting" from a bug in a previous version.
The main reason for the retention of RSS items was to prevent reload when
items disappeared for a short time from the feed.
Again: if you want true control, you need SickBeard. It offers you much more filtering options as well.

SickBeard it is, then. Looks really nice, too. Thank you for your patience and for pointing me in the right direction!

My only remaining question is this: Do I disable the RSS feeds from Newzbin, and make SickBeard responsible for determining what to download, shoveling the work to SABnzbd to do? I have SAB all set up to "do it all," so I want to make sure I divide the responsibilities properly now with SickBeard thrown into the mix.

I believe I would disable SABnzbd's RSS feeds altogether, change post-processing to use the altered autoProcessTV.cfg file, and away I go, correct? So my saved searches in Newzbin and the corresponding RSS feeds in SABnzbd become unnecessary? Sorry for the wall of text...

I think I got the above changes right, according to a 2010 post from inpheaux:

You can keep SABnzbd's feeds for items that are not covered by SickBeard.
Since SickBeard concentrates on Series material it probably won't support the rest.
But be careful to avoid duplication.
