Noob questions about program expectation

Post by gunserotti »

First post here :) Trying not to violate the DBAI rule.

I just installed Sickbeard and Sabnzbd for the first time using the following guide. I think it is working properly...I still have a few setting to workout. I have the latest version of each program running on a Windows 7 machine. My news provider is from my local ISP (Sickbeard server) and I purchased an NZBMatrix account (search provider). A few questions if you will:

1. Im trying to get a sense if I am obtaining the expected results. For example, lets say I was attempting to download a popular sitcom series (all 5 seasons). Is it reasonable to assume that I would get every episode? Or should I expect something like 7/98 episodes (all from the current season). If I should expect every episode, I wonder what the bottle neck is? I heard the NZBMatrix is a decent provider....or could it be a problem with my local ISP news server? I guess what I'm asking is should I pay for more search providers or upgrade my news provider?

Thanks

It's all down to your news providers retention. Most ISP new servers have only 7-30 day's retention, so even with your VIP account at the Matrix, you will only be able to download stuff that is 7-30 day's old.
That's where premium newsproviders come in such as Astraweb. They have retentions over 1000 day's.
I signed up to Astraweb using http://www.tiny.cc/Kleverig (which still seems to be working) for $11/month, but a search in Google will throw up other options.
You don't need more search providers, but Sickbeard lists several that you can sign up to, most free, which will help if the Matrix doesn't list the TV program you're after.

OK...so your recommendation is to try a premium news provider. sounds good. I guess I can obtain a trial membership and if it works sign up for membership. Thanks.....

I took your recommendation and actually sign-up with the URL you provided. It made a huge difference.....everything DL fine except the first season (none of the episodes were available)....I guess it was out of the retention period. Thanks
