Set timer for speed limiter

Post by jimbo_slice »

Hello, I did a search and didn't find any request quite the same as what I'd like to see, as I don't want to involve the scheduler or anything complicated.

I would like to be able to set a timer on the speed limiter.

I.E. you set the limiter to 512KB/s and in that same little window you can set a countdown timer for X amount of minutes. Once that timer runs down, the limiter is removed and returns to full speed.

This feature would be handy if for example you want to watch some youtube vids or whatever, but you don't want to outright pause your usenet downloads, just give yourself some bandwidth headroom for say 30 minutes...

Make sense? It should be fairly simple to implement..

P.S. sorry my first post on the forums is a request :-[

You can pause download for certain amount of time. Other option would be to configure QoS on router and give your youtube device higher priority. Another option if you know that every evening between certain hours you need more bandwidth you could limit download speed via scheduler.

Did you read my OP? In it I stated that I don't want to outright pause the download, just throttle it. And configuring QoS on my router would be a stupid way of approaching the problem, since I would have to re-configure it any time a new device is on the network.

I've requested what I think is the easiest solution to the problem (a countdown-timed speed limiter); I'm not looking for other, more arduous workarounds :)

The easiest solution is to get bigger pipe. You should read about QoS because it doesn't require reconfiguration every time new device is connected to network. Im not a developer but in my opinion SAB provides already enough options to solve your "problem".
