Downloads wont start in Ubuntu/Debian
Version: (0.6.11RC1)
OS: (Ubuntu 10.04.3)
Install-type: (linux repository JCFP)
Skin (Plush)
Firewall Software: (None)
Are you using IPV6? (no)
Is the issue reproducible? (yes)
I have a problem where the download queue wont process in SABnzbd.
My first install was on an existing Ubuntu 10.04.3 server but i have since tried a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04.3 as well as a fresh install of Debian 6.0.3. In all instances, the downloads just wont start. Everytime i add NZB or i stop and start the queue it downloads about 1KB and then stops. If i check the connection queue it says (after a while) that the connections have timed out.
I then installed it on Windows and used exactly the same settings and it starts downloading immediately. I even tried a fresh install of Windows and used exactly the same IP address i used for Ubuntu/Debian but it works fine - so there are no (perimeter) firewall issues.
I really cant understand whats going on as there's not much feedback in terms of logs...
I am using the JCFP version of SABnzbd.

So, when you click on "Test Server", you get a time-out?ibennybravo wrote: If i check the connection queue it says (after a while) that the connections have timed out.
Can you post a screenshot of your server settings? You can erase the username; we need to see the server settings: name, port, SSL-settings, etc.
And: if you fill out a another, second server (newszilla.xs4all.nl, default settings), what happens when you click Test Server? Timeout, or something else?

Re: Downloads wont start in Ubuntu/Debian
No - when i click "Test Server" (using my exising provider - supernews) the connection is successful. I have tried both 119 and 563 (SSL) - both are successful. If i watch my router or firewall interface (e.g. netflow) i can see the connection going through and there it downloads about 1-3KB then the session disappears on the router. On SABnzbd it still says theres a connection but after a while it times out...

If you have only one server, remove the retention time.

Thanks but I've tried with and without retention time. Makes no difference...

Re: Downloads wont start in Ubuntu/Debian
Tried numerous nzb's - all are less than one week old. The same nzbs work 100% in Windows version of SABnzbd...
Re: Downloads wont start in Ubuntu/Debian
Assuming the queued items aren't individually pause or the global pause is on:
Do you see any activity on the Status->Connections page?
Anything in Config->Scheduler?

Re: Downloads wont start in Ubuntu/Debian
I've checked and doublechecked global and individual pause. Also checked schedules - there are none.
With regard to the connections. If i pause and unpause (global) then i will see connections built e.g.
Server: news.supernews.com
Status: Enabled
# Connections: 5
Article identifier filename File set
1322044133.15950.1@eu.news.astraweb.com xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
1322044133.16348.1@eu.news.astraweb.com xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
1322044133.17314.1@eu.news.astraweb.com xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
1322044133.18732.1@eu.news.astraweb.com xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
1322044147.90836.1@eu.news.astraweb.com xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
After a while it will say connections timed out. Then it will pause for a few minutes and start again. Each time it does this it downloads about 1KB.
I've also noticed that if i set my max connections a bit higher - say 10, after a while i get a warning that says "too many connections" (or something like that). My news server supports 30 connections so im guessing that SABnzbd sets up 10 connections, which then timeout on the clientside but not on the server side. So then it sets up 10 again.... and again.... From the server side it sees 30+ connections after a while and throws an error... So SABnzbd is definately setting them up, but doesnt seem to be able to maintain them...

Desperate attempt: try the European server.

Re: Downloads wont start in Ubuntu/Debian
Are you sure it the problem is not outside the Ubuntu system, for example a router or firewall or ISP throttling the NNTP connections? A way to check that is installing nzbget: install nzbget from the repository, and follow the further instructions on http://ipv6-or-no-ipv6.blogspot.com/201 ... -1110.html . Can nzbget succesfully download?

Re: Downloads wont start in Ubuntu/Debian
As per original post - i have setup SABnzbd on a windows machine using the same ports (119 or 563) and same local ip address and it downloads without a problem. So it cant be firewall or ISP as they wouldn't distinguish between the OS's.
I've tried changing to news.eu.supernews.com but no difference. Besides, its already connecting to eu.news.astraweb.com (as per connection statuses) isnt that already an EU server?

Re: Downloads wont start in Ubuntu/Debian
i see the official "latest" version is 0.6.10 but if you use the JCFP repository you get 0.6.11RC1...
I'm going to download 0.6.10 and install from source to see if this makes a difference.

No, you are not connecting to Astraweb.ibennybravo wrote:Besides, its already connecting to eu.news.astraweb.com (as per connection statuses) isnt that already an EU server?
What you see are actual article-ids that often have the original upload server name in them.
Re: Downloads wont start in Ubuntu/Debian
Can you try to open a telnet connection to the server. In a terminal, execute this:
(in case it complains telnet is missing just install it)
Code: Select all
telnet news.supernews.com 119-

Thanks for all the help so far guys - Tearing my hair out here. I've just done a source install of 0.6.10 and STILL it cant download. I tried a Windows install on another machine and it works immediately - exactly the same NZB. I'm literally willing to pay someone to resolve this...
