Connections stay open while transfers are paused

Running 0.6.9 on Linux. I'm curious why connections to the news sever are kept open while transfers are individually paused. If the daemon is paused globally, the connections close, but if the download starts, and it is specifically paused, the connections stay open.

Because it's implemented this way :)
We never considered this case.
BTW: the Usenet server will terminate the connections after a few minutes.
