Gui Speed Issue with 0.4.0 Beta 5

Post by skyalex »

Version: 0.4.0 Beta5
OS: Win XP on a dual core (AMD) machine
Install-type: Windows Installer
Skin (if applicable): tried different
Firewall Software: Bitdefender
Is the issue reproducible? yes

I have been using SABNZBD on a Linux Machine for 2 weeks now. All is running as it should.
Because of the weak Linux machine I also installed it on a windows machine some days ago.
There I have the issue that the reaction of the gui on mouse clicks is very very slow (up to 5 minutes).
Seldom all is normal for some clicks then it hangs again and I have to wait 2 minutes minimum after each click.
It doesn't matter how the queue is filled. Even if its empty the issue appears.
I tried different Skins and searched the forum, without success.

I hope someone has an idea to help me.

Thanks

Alex

Do have a (very) large queue of jobs.

We have seen problems with the ZoneAlarm firewall,
Bitdefender we don't know.
Have you tried stopping the firewall for a quick test?

What is the address you use on the Windows system?
Try localhost.
If you use 0.0.0.0 or the real IP address, the firewall will
certainly interfere.
Most firewalls leave localhost alone (not all).

As said in my first post, my queue is empty at the moment.
I deactivated the firewall, but still the same.
It's strange.
Should I try another version?

is this problem on the local machine or through a network connection?
also, do you have any application running that is hosting something (ftp server, webserver, remote desktop server, gaming server etc).

All is running on the local machine.
It's a normal XP Workstation without any server services.

No the prozess need nearly no cpu, and memory only 17MB.

When it hangs and I click different "buttons", all buttons are pressed very fast after each other when sabnzb reacts again (hope you'll understand what I mean with this).

Hey, what browser are you using? Could you also test in an alternative? (Firefox/Opera)

I updated to the newest version. Still the same.

Additionally I have the problem with all websites I view in the browser. As long as the SABNZBD Gui is running all websites are hanging sometimes. So nearly no browsing is possible.

Which skin do you use?
Does the problem also occur with the "Default" skin?

I had a short test with the defaul (after SABnzbd starts again  ;) and the issue is  the same. SABnzbd is after some clicks, where it reacts normal, really slow.
It is really strange because on both of my two windows pcs the issue occurs. I wonder why no one else has this problem.

He says XP so I doubt ipv6, can't rule it out though.

Do both the PC's have Bitdefender? With some problem firewalls such as ZoneAlarm that cause issues we allow sabnzbd to launch but the firewall may still cause problems. If you are willing, try disabling the firewall (you will need to uninstall, simply disabling it won't disable all the hooks).

If this is indeed the case there may be a specific setting you can change in BitDefender to solve the issue. If it's not, then send us a .log file to bugs at sabnzbd.org
