Download failed - Out of your server's retention?

Post by mcaires »

I just started using sabnzbd.

No matter what I do I keep receiving this error message.

I've tried to provide smaller nzb files containing a tiny subset of what I want to download (emails) with no success. Also, removed any special characters from the nzb filename per other thread on the same issue. I've tried different browsers (Firefox and IE). I'm using the 'add nzb' button.

The download always starts and makes good progress but, in the end, it always returns the same error.

How do I start to debug this issue?

Thanks in advance.

That normally means just that: the post is no longer on your Usenet server.
What age are the NZBs (hover the mouse over the title in the queue)?
What is the retention time of your server?

I think there is something blocking the download on the server-side BUT retention is unlikely.
I generated the NZB using Newsleecher. There. when I double click in one of the files, I can manually download them and visualize the content of emails using wordpad. But when I upload the NZB containing files to be downloaded in sabenzbd. I don't manage to download successfully. It starts downloading and when it gets close to the end, it fails with the retention error msg.
I've tried to download a random file from a public usenet server and it works. So, it's specific to this server. Unfortunately, it's the one I need.
The admin is asking me what exactly is failing. Since I'm the only one using sabenzbd, everybody else uses newsreader clients, i.e. Thunderbird. So, I'm the only one seeing the issue.
If I can point out what's wrong in the server config that's blocking me, it'd help a lot.

Please email the NZB file to bugs at sabnzbd.org
I suspect it's some non standard rar/par thing.
BTW: the purpose of SABnzbd is not general Usenet reading.

SABnzbd is a specialized downloader that will only download
binary posts in the yEnc and uuencode formats.
What you are looking for is real Usenet text messages.
SABnzbd is not suitable for that purpose.
You probably have to use a tool like Newsleecher, although I'm not sure if that
does the right thing for your kind of purpose.

Okay. Thanks.

NOTE: To download with Thunderbird. Then, export the files as .eml was the only option that kinda worked so far. Not sure about performance tho.
