Hi all,
I just build a new PC and installed everything regarding UseNet downloading again.
I notice that when I download through UseNet I reach a max of 4,5MB/sec, where I use to download with 12,2MB/sec on my old hardware.
When I run a speedtest I reach download speeds up to 118Mbit with the new hardware. Network adapter settings show i am on Gbit LAN.
Some additional information:
ISP: Ziggo (120Mbit)
Usenet Provider: LightningUsenet Premium (100Mbit max DL speed)
SabNZBd settings: 7 DL connections, article cache = -1
Are there any options I can check which might improve the DL speed?

Re: Slow download speed on new PC
What kind of hardware is it?
Which OS?
Are the SABnzbd settings exactly the same as on the previous box?

Hardware is:shypike wrote:What kind of hardware is it?

i5 2500K @ 4,5Ghz
8GB DDR3 CL7 1333 RAM (Dual)
Radeon HD 6970
OCZ Solid 3 120GB SSD
WD Caviar Black 1TB 64MB cache connected @ Sata600
OS: Windows 7 x64 SP1.
Settings are the same, the only non-standard settings i had on my previous rig were the article cache. They are both set to -1. Other difference is the SP1 on Windows 7. My previous setup had Windows 7 without SP1.
When I run a speed test now, I receive a solid 122Mbit DL speed. That leaves 3 options open:
- SabNZBd setting
- LightningUsenet issues
- Hardware issues (altough new hardware is much faster as previous)
Re: Slow download speed on new PC
Do you have some sort of "advanced" (aka more troublesome) firewall or virus scanner?
I test on Windows 7 x64, SP1 with an SSD and a harddisk.
No problems getting the max speed of 11MBytes/sec here.
I don't use the SSD for temp storage, that's all for the harddisk (but that should not matter anyway).

I use the Windows Firewall together with Microsoft Security Essentials. Default configuration, nothing special.
Is there any way to 'speed test' my UseNet provider, apart from using SabNZBd?
Re: Slow download speed on new PC
Ziggo has it's own newsserver (see https://www.ziggo.nl/#producten/interne ... wsservice/). What happens when you use that newwserver (and only that newsserver) with 4 threads: which speed do you get?
