Noob Question localhost:8081 not available

Post by fruitpassion »

Hi i am new to newsgroup download, i have an isp with news server i was just wondering can i use my isp news server to download files using sabnzbd? can someone give me a step by step instructions on how to setup sabnzbd? i already install sabnzbd on my pc but when i open it it says

SABnzbd needs a free tcp/ip port for its internal web server.
Port 8080 on localhost was tried , but it is not available.
Some other software uses the port or SABnzbd is already running.

Please restart SABnzbd with a different port number.

Press Startkey+R and type the line (example):
        C:\Program Files\SABnzbd\SABnzbd.exe --server localhost:8081

If you get this error message again, please try a different number.

Program did not start!

Hi,

By default, SABnzbd listen on port 8080, the error message said that it was not available, maybe you have another program listening on that port.
You can configure SABnzbd to listen on other port, see the manual here for more information.

Hope it helps,

I was getting this message also but that was because SABnzbd was already running.  It wouldn't run two instances of SAB.  The easiest way is to restart your computer and try to reopen SABnzbd.  You should be taken to the configuration page to set up everything.  If you just open your browser and put in the following line and SABnzbd is running you should see the configuration page.

In answer to your other question you can use your isp news server but they are notoriously crappy.  You should ante up some cash and go with a server that provides you with some usable service.  Its much less frustrating and you're more likely to find what you want.  The link below is to a very good wiki you might want to check out.
