Speed

Post by 0m3g@hM@n »

Hey All!

New to the forum but not new to SABnzbd. Been around since the old 0.2.5 days like 07 I think? Anyway, I have Verizon FiOS with 20+meg D\L speed. The issue I am having is that I can only get SABnzbd to D\L at 2.27 mg (Downloaded in 25 minutes 49 seconds at an average of 2.27 MB/s) and it has never been faster. Other apps (Newsbin) can pull down from Giganews (my provider) at 18 or 19 mgps. Am I doing something wrong or is this just the way it is? Any assistance is greatly welcome!

P.S. I love this app!

I don't know on what hardware you run it,
but on any PC less than three years old, you should be able
to get at least 10 MBytes/sec.
You should set at least an ample article cache (say 200M).

You say your line speed is 20 M, is that bits or bytes?
SABnzbd uses MBytes/second.

Thanks for the reply shypike,

It's Bytes, 20+ Megabytes. It's fiber to the house then copper to the closet and rooms. Im running it on an HP Pavilion dv7, 8 gig of RAM, Windows 7. I've left the artical limit blank thinking no limit would be faster...yes? :-\ Dont know it it matters but I have 50 connections thru Giganews and use all. But it didnt seem to matter when I had a package with 20 connections. It still ran slow. I can't figure it out ???, other apps run faster but dont have all the cool toys as SAB does.

I run with 20 SSL connections on Astraweb with a 120Mbit (= 15MByte) connection and works just fine.
Usually its average is around 14.4MByte: "Downloaded in 25 seconds at an average of 14.4 MB/s"

CPU: Core i7 920, 6GB of memory, 1TB drive 7200 rpm, Windows 7 x64
My article cash is 128MB.

Even on my lowly Atom-powered WHS box it gets to 5-6 MBytes/sec.

Thanks for your replies.

Was it fast like that "out of the box" or did you have to do some configuration somewhere?
I just need to rule everything out B4 I go mucking around with my router.
If I figure it out I'll plop it here in the event someone else has the same probs.

Out of the box.
Just pick a sensible amount of threads per server (your mileage may vary)
and an ample article cache, that's about it.

Well, it's not the router. Have a spare and used it to test and the results are the same. Also any config changes I make within SAB makes no diff at all. I'm at a loss. Shypike: when you say "threads per server" do you mean the connections?

Yes.
Have you tried an alternative Usenet downloader?
This may (or may not) rule out other problems besides the speed of SABnzbd.
