SAB downloads failed due to missing repair blocks & possibility to recover data

Post by nzbtuxnews »

Hello!

I have started some downloads via SickBeard and on all episodes (17) of this show, only the first one downloaded, repaired and unpacked successfully for post processing by Sickbeard.  All other episodes are failing due to :

"Repair failed, not enough repair blocks (X short)"...

I have searched this forum and found similar inquiries, but nowhere I've seen ways to recover the data that was already downloaded.  In other words, is there a way to re-repair the downloads or the data that was downloaded is now garbage and I will have to re-download?  Seems pointless to re-download 25GB for a single chunk of data that did not pass verification.

What can cause such problem?  All other shows worked perfectly.  I am using NZBMatrix

Thanks!

Check which files ended up in your "temporary download folder".
Config->Folders will tell you where it is.
It has a folder for each unfinished download.
Otherwise the downloaded files will have been transported to the final folders.
From there you can use QuickPar and WinRAR to establish the completeness.
If needed, download extra PAR2 files and use QuickPar and WinRAR,
like in the old days of Usenet.

If you run  into this often, consider upgrading to 0.6.0 Beta3,
which will make life easier when handling incomplete downloads.
This won't help your current failed downloads.

What would 060B3 do?

0.6.0Beta3 will allow retries from the history view.
For unrepairable jobs, ypu would add a more complete NZB file with more par2 files
or just an NZB with extra par2 files in it.

Thanks a lot for replying!

I faileed to mention that I am using Linux.  I am also new to this so I apologize in advance for newbie questions...

Before I upgrade to 0.6.0 B3, I'd like to try to repair the files as you suggested.  Right now, the failed episodes are in separate subfolders in my incomplete folder.  For example, one of the episodes has the following files in the folder:

.s01e03.720p.hdtv.x264-ctu.r00
[...]
.s01e03.720p.hdtv.x264-ctu.vol17+15.par2
.s01e03.720p.hdtv.x264-ctu.vol32+15.par2

So with these files, how can I repair?

Also, when you said "download extra PAR2 files"  how do I do that?

Thanks !

It would be too much trouble to repair those files (unless you want to find an old linux newsreader that will select, download and decode individual Usenet articles, and use a binary file joiner, and find some way that Quickpar will work in linux, and piece together many broken files one at a time).

The NZB you used is complete enough.  There are no extra PAR2 files.

The added features of 0.6.0 Beta3 won't help with that post.

Start over.  Add a cheap pay-by-download server from Blocknews.net, Usenet-news.net or Astraweb.  Use the European server for Blocknews, not USA.  Configure as backup server in SABnzbd+.

Do you have axx to a windows PC ?
If so .. share the incomplete folder .. and try to repair the files with quickpar.

Also have a look at the sizes of the rar file , as maybe that can also help you to tell wich are not good.
So you can try to redownload these

@nzbtuxnews:

I went to binsearch.info, created a .NZB for s01e03.720p.hdtv.x264-ctu, downloaded it (1GB), and everything went OK.

So: what happens if you do the same (= creating and downloading only one episode)?

If that doesn't work, I guess your newsserver hasn't got the post, and there's is little you can do about that (other than using another newsserver)

Thanks guys for the replies.

I am using supernews as the usenet server and nzbmatrix for the indexing feature...  Any suggestions on that?
When you said it would be too much trouble, you mean its probably pointless and I should re-download?
Add a cheap pay-by-download server from Blocknews.net, Usenet-news.net or Astraweb.  Use the European server for Blocknews, not USA.  Configure as backup server in SABnzbd+.
That gets me confused.  Should I opt out of supernews and go with something else? Is it what you are saying?
Also have a look at the sizes of the rar file , as maybe that can also help you to tell wich are not good.
So you can try to redownload these
Most files are 47MB only a few of them are 46.7, 46.9 and so on...  How do I redownload these without re-downloading the whole 1.8GB?

I am asking because my current ISP sucks and I have a 125GB monthly cap.  So I am trying to be smart and reuse the data if I can...
I went to binsearch.info, created a .NZB for s01e03.720p.hdtv.x264-ctu, downloaded it (1GB), and everything went OK.

I'll take a look, I've never done this before.  In fact I have been using this for only a few days now and I am very noob at it... :)

Funny enough, for the last few days, everything was running fine until I tried to get that show.  Now, I just tried with a different show and got "download failed out of your server's retention?"

Upgrade to SABnzbd 0.6.0 Beta3.
Then move your partially completed download folders bak to the "temporary download folder".
It should look something like this:
... incomplete --- my-first-job
                    +-- my-second-job

Start SABnzbd.
Add NZB files that have names exactly as the folders, eg. my-first-job.nzb.
SABnzbd will start downloading ans skip any file that is already present.
It's important that you have NZB with extra PAR2 files in them.

I am reading my previous post, and noticed that I mis-typed, instead of incomplete it should have beeen complete in
Right now, the failed episodes are in separate subfolders in my incomplete folder.  For example, one of the episodes has the following files in the folder:
I also failed to mention that the download folders had the prefix _FAILED_ .  Can I still use your strategy to recover data?

I tried to do what you suggested, but SAB re-creates a new folder alltogether.  If I remove the _FAILED_ prefix, SAB recreate a new folder with the .1 extension and seems to redownload everything again.

?
Thanks!

I don't mean to confuse you.  It isn't necessary to dump Supernews, but you should have a backup server configured as backup.  Cheapest account from Usenet-news.net is $2, Blocknews.net $2.75, Astraweb $10.  You could even use as a backup 'test.news-service.com' which is free and happens to be up today.

Comments on NZBMatrix say the episode is missing 17 blocks.  There are no 'extra' PAR2 files.  If you re-download the 7 PAR2 files with the backup configured you gain 11 blocks and need 6 more.  The poster included the NFO, SFV and SRR in the PAR set which is dumb but it lets you gain 3 more blocks from the backup.  Then you must re=download 3 RAR files to get to 17.  That's the absolute minimum you have to re-download with the backup server enabled.

I don't know if you have to delete the 7 PAR and 3 RAR files to get them to download again in SABnzbd+.  As talented as 0.6.0 Beta3 is, it can't separate a file at the proper point, instert a missing piece, and stitch the file back together.

OK I got a block account with Blocknews.net.

Thats foreign language to me... :)  So If I understand correctly, I need to re-download PAR files.  When you say "re-download the 7 PAR2 files" how do you actually download these files?  TO be honest, I am not even sure what are PAR files...

Bear with me!  Trying to learn here!

By the way, you broke the forum rules when you listed those 39 files above.  Expect that message to be edited by a moderator.

Keep Supernews as the primary server.  Don't use the U.S. Blocknews server, use the European one configured as a backup server.

Make a new NZB at Binsearch.info with the 13 files you must download with a backup server added:

.nfo
.sfv
.srr
.rar
.r00
.r01
and the 7 large PAR2 files

I don't know how to get SABnzbd+ to repair the other 29 RAR files you already downloaded.  I think you put the 29 files somewhere in your temporary download folder.  Someone else must help you with that part.
