Downloads stop after around 1 minute and SAB hangs

Post by eponymous »

Version: 0.5.6
OS: Gentoo Linux
Install-type: Python source + yenc install
Skin (if applicable): Plush
Firewall Software: IPTables
Are you using IPV6? No, just IPv4
Is the issue reproducible? Yes, always.

Hi,

It seems that when I add an NZB to SAB it will connect to Newshosting (my host) on port 443 with SSL and start downloading (not at the max speed my line will go).

However, after around one minute or so, the download rate will begin to slow down until eventually it just stops.

If I check the console output it just sticks on "Trying to connect to server" after it had previously timed out.

I've tried unchecking the "disconnect when queue empty" option but I still have this problem :S

I've tried multiple different NZB's on both of NEwshosting's servers.

Using Newsleecher as a test on another system with the same server doesn't exhibit this problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

There's too many Linuxes around to support, so we're not familiar with Gentoo.
Have you tried SABnzbd on Windows?
Which Python version are you using on Linux?

Hi,

I'm using Python 2.6.6.

I have been using SAB for over year perfectly fine but ever since I re-installed gentoo I just can't get it to work.

It's been stuck since last night. The last message printed to console was:

Code: Select all

2011-02-06 20:38:57::INFO:: [downloader:465] 6@news.newshosting.com:443: Initiating connection
SAB was still responsive as I am still getting the RSS scan messages.

What happens if you don't use SSL, and just one connection, and just one server?

What happens if you press the "Test Server" button in de Server page?

Solved.

I switched from the Plush interface to classic. Seems to be fine now.

Are you on Firefox/NoScript?
SABnzbd 0.6.0Alpha11 on Fedora 14-64bit laptop.
Usenet-News, TeraNews, newszilla6.xs4all.nl and reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl.
IPv6 connections powered by Hurricane Electric.
Can pull 30Mbit nntp on a 30Mbit FTTH link.

Hi guys,

I'm afraid it froze again :(.

Seems I was wrong.

Symptoms were different this time though...

I left it on overnight and no progress had been made through my queue of around 100 NZB's.

The rate was being report at 1.85MB/s even though there wasn't actually any downloading going on (confirmed by checking the router traffic lights).

I'm using Firefox on the PC that I monitor from but the server doesn't have any browser other than links (the browser I used for initial config).

I have AdBlock as the only plugin on Firefox and I didn't leave that browser open all night - I actualy shut the PC down and just left my Gentoo SAB server doing its stuff.

I'm at a complete loss... I knwo it used to work - I don't know what's changed.

Yeah, I tried different combos of ports, SSL on/off, different numbers of connections etc..

Same result  ???

I would do this:
1) remove everything from the queue
2) remove SAB's hidden directory (rm -rf ~/.sabnzbd/)
3) remove the SABnzbd-directory
4) download and install SABnzbd, run the setup and only fill out one server, one connection, no SSL
5) Then start just one download and see what happens

I'll give this a go when I get in .

Cheers.

Following the above to the letter the download goes for around half an hour at a fairly slow speed then just goes to 0B/s and hangs there :(

From the connections page:

Code: Select all

Connections

    * news.newshosting.com:119: timed out

*** UPDATE: The timeout message cleared and it started downlaoding again about 10 mins later but only at a crawl speed of 312B/s sometimes going  back to 0B/s again. This is on a 50Mbps connection.

UPDATE: The download completed sucessfully with an avergae rate of 1MB/s.

So my next question is: is it normal for sab to behave the way I've been describing?

Also, why doesn't it work with SSL enabled and a large queue of downloads?

What should I try next?
