General question about downloads that fail once, but succeed when redownloaded

Hi,

what might cause the following: I download a RAR-file, it has CRC errors. When I redownload it using the same connection (same usenet provider), the file is okay. Do you think this is rather a problem that my RAM or some other component is defective, or is it caused by the transfer itself, or the provider?
