Schedule hibernate or shutdown

Post by Chris_147 »

Hi,

I'd like to run SabNzbd every day at certain times: so start at 2 am and download until 8 am.
This because my ISP only charges me half the download size in this timeframe.

I can start up the PC automatically from my BIOS or with other tools.
However, I'd like to pause and hibernate at 8 am, not only pause or shutdown sabnzbd, but the whole computer.
And it is possible to hibernate when the queue has finished, so how can I do this from the scheduler?

Chris,
You might like to check out WakeupOnStandBy here http://www.dennisbabkin.com/php/download.php?what=WOSB.  I really can't be bothered to mess with the BIOS or with Task Scheduler for that matter, but this little free utility does exactly what you describe and I have found it to be 100% reliable. It's set to wake my PC every day at 6am and suspend it 2 hours later, allowing ample time for my overnight downloads.

Thanks for the reply!

So, do you start and pause sabnzbd after you start up and before you sleep, or do you do nothing in the scheduler?

I normally leave SAB running and set SAB's scheduler so that it only operates from 10.00pm to 9am. Most of the shows I download get posted around 3-4am UK time, so I set WOSB to wake the pc at 6am for 2 hours. I prefer to leave it for a fixed time rather than set SAB to shut down when the queue is empty. I do it this way in case something arrives a little late on the RSS (I use NZBS.ORG) after other items have completed: if SAB was set to suspend on completion, this might cause a late item on the RSS to be missed.

There is an option in WOSB to run a program when it wakes the pc and even though SAB is normally running already, I use this to run SAB, just in case. It only ever runs a single instance, anyway.

This is my WOSB setup:
