Remote downloads (via twitter)

This could work well for those of us that have nzbmatrix and other sources in place.

Basically, I would set up a second twitter account for sabnzbd. Account would be set to private so only I can follow it and see the timeline. Then I can tweet to that account when I'm away from home. I'd tweet a file name including tags such as 1080p, 720p. After it searches it could tweet back with a result that has the file name so I know exactly what it found and if possible, the language of the file. It would be annoying if it accidentally downloaded something French or German right? Maybe it could read the flags on nzbmatrix that would tell it what language it is. Anyway once it tweets the search results I'd tweet back with "yes" to confirm the download


My tweet to this account could be prefixed with "Search: xxxxxxxx" in case any other commands were put into place, such as "Status" (where it could tweet the status of the downloads, how long till complete etc)

What do you think?

I use SickBeard with sabnzbd and that was twitter implementation. It just tweets when something has been downloaded and I get it as a text message to my phone. Handy for when I'm not at home which is pretty much most of the day

SABnzbd doesn't do searches for you. You'd need to write some sort of middle-ware application to handle the searching and dispatching of nzbs. Also, since it's rather hard to get ONE result from a search string considering how huge and full of reposts Usenet is, this would be hard to implement in a way such that it wouldn't flood your SABnzbd install with a bunch of crap.

Furthermore, it sounds like you're shoehorning this kind of stuff into Twitter for no reason other than "OMG TWITTER". Why not make SABnzbd remotely available and just use it directly? If you want it to work on your phone, get one of the growing number of very full-featured SABnzbd applications for iOS, Android, etc. Twitter just isn't a good fit, especially when solid fully-featured implementations of what you want -- a remote control for SABnzbd -- already exist.

Ah. I had no idea these apps existed. Though searching for sabnzbd in the Appstore only gives 2 results (SAB Mobile & MyNZB)

I only mentioned twitter because I didn't know of these remote control apps. I don't use twitter to follow people & tweet boring shit. I just use it for apps like these. Thanks for that I'll do a little bit of searching and see which app is the better one to buy

Look around on the forums, too. Tanis, for instance, was just released and looks pretty promising.

Yep thanks, I'll do some searching. Tanis looks really amazing! I bought it simply because of the very well designed GUI. It works really well too, just needs more search providers
