Slow download speeds help please

I am downloading at only 150 KB/s with my new computer. I have a brand new quad core an 12 gigs of ram so i know its not the computer. im only using about 2% of my CPU. ive tried changeing the article cache values but it just increases the load on the ram with no speed change. I have comcast hi speed and get over 20 mbps and my computer is hardwired in no router. please helpppp

How fast is your Usenet provider?
How many "connections" do you use?
Have you ever tried another Usenet downloader?

I have a very similar situation.  I cannot download anything at over 150Kb/s  My computer is new and fine. I thought it was my internet connection for a while (Time Warner sucks) but i have ran several connection speed tests and downloaded a small netmeter which says that I can download at speeds at about 11Mb/s.  My usenet provider is astraweb and my package from them says i should be able to download at 1Mb/s and use 20 connections  very open to any suggestions..  thanks

Have you tried with an alternative Usenet program?
An average spec PC should be able to get a decent speed.
