sabnzbdplus (linuxmint xfce) help a newbie to the linux fold...

Post by zomorf »

Hi All,

I'm having problems with sabnzbdplus 0.5.0 under the latest linuxmint xfce32... running sabnzbdplus from terminal no commandline options either loading browser (firefox) on loading sabnzbd...

It'll download but it keeps stalling on Initiating connection. I can't workout why it stalling and there is no pattern too it... Hopefully it's something simple...

I've tried updating sabnzbd to the latest but it just doesn't happen even via the manual unautharised repo... So i downloaded the 0.5.4 tar.gz archive and just wondering in my current directory I have the .py files and also .pyc do I need the .pyc or do I need to compile the .py files? If so how? I've only just started with linuxmint xfce32 about 2 weeks ago so a total new guy i am on how things work wit linux etc...

I really want to stick with linuxmint so hopefully I can get this solved...

If you need more information let me know what you may need... will check back in a few hours for maybe a reply :)

Thanking anyone in advance

Which IP address did you set for SABnzbd's internal webserver?
Do you get the wizard?
Try starting like this:
SABnzbd.py -s localhost:8080

Hi shypike,

The problem is in the terminal it just stops after awhile it can be 10 mins or it can be 10 hours... but it just stays on Initiating Connection I then CTRL-C and reload and it fires up again ( I get the display in firefox and can configure it etc all is working well but this Initiating Connection problem)...  I've increased the cache to 128M from 64M too see what that may do in solving the issue... The other prob is I can't update from 0.5.0 unless i do it via using the source.tar.gz archive but I'm unsure on how I get the .pyc files I already have in the directories... I've tried updating via the http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/install-ubuntu-repo  but it fails to update... So I thought maybe a manual install... But being new to linux I'm unsure what I really need to do...

Hopefully that helps more...

Thanks for the quick reply...

The geniuses behind linux mint decided having different release names from standard ubuntu makes them look good. Anyway, a fix is described here by deviant. In short, edit /etc/apt/sources.list and replace the release name of linux mint with a proper ubuntu one. After that at least the update should work.

Hi All,

OK update... I got 0.5.4 running via "python sabnzbd.py" manually but just read your post jcfp and am doing an update now... So hopefully things will work... And 0.5.4 actually continued all night downloading which is a first for awhile... So hopefully things will continue...

Many thanks to the folks here and also nzbmatrix between the 2 site the help has been great...

Also been pointed to "cairo dock" and that looks like a good idea I might try aswell...

So once again things seem to be on the improve...

Many many thanks...

OK update... 30 minutes after that post I get the following ...

2010-09-09 07:19:13,583::INFO::[downloader:465] 9@news.ams.newshosting.com:563: Initiating connection
2010-09-09 07:19:33,910::INFO::[downloader:654] Connecting 9@news.ams.newshosting.com:563 finished
2010-09-09 07:20:20,984::INFO::[downloader:721] Thread 11@news.ams.newshosting.com:563: timed out
2010-09-09 07:20:49,897::INFO::[downloader:465] 23@news.ams.newshosting.com:563: Initiating connection

I then hit CTRL-C sabnzbd flushes the cache and I restart sabnzbd...  I may try another server see if that helps... Otherwise what other info can I gather for debugging?

Thanks all... now running sabnzbd 0.5.4

Are you using free servers ?
If so .. they can be overloaded

I would recommend using a paid server , they are pretty cheap lately & worth the money

Nope newshosting is my provider I never had a problem whilst running sabnzbd under windows xp so it must be something like a setting or something else conflicting etc... I'll keep trying a few more things and hopefully I'll work it out... currently running linux mint but might give ubuntu a go... trial and error I guess...
