I have to close down MANUALLY everytime I start up windows 7.
(because I can't/don't want to download when I work).

Check your connection in Status and Interface settings window.

Just un-install it using the Windows Control Panel.
Tell it to keep the data intact.
Then re-install without the option "Start together with Windows" (I don't remember the exact wording right now).
