WHS and Sabnzbd DL speed spikes

Post by computer »

Running a fresh build of WHS PP3 installed Latest build of Sabnzbd as well, Speeds go from 3.0Mb's to 15Kb's and back and forth.
When I run sab directly on laptop I get a constant 1.5Mb's, normally the server ran Sab @ 2.5Mb's .
Things I have tried so far.
1) Reinstall drivers for nic card
2) Ran a Defrag
3) All Hard drives are running no problems or health warning's
4) Traceroute on astraweb current usenet provider also tried Giganes same problem
Should I start .net framwork? checking cables or is there another method of systematically find the problem?
If have any ideas please reply.
Thanks

Which version do you use?
How big is the queue?
Do you use a memory cache (see Config->General), you should.

On my WHS, I get a fairly constant speed of 6 MBytes/sec (Atom CPU).

Where do you have your temporary download folder and cache folder?
You should have them in a folder on d:\ and not use the \\server\share notation.
Only for the final folders you must use \\server\share.

Thanks shypike I will try your suggestions I do have the Temp folder and the cache in shares folder I will change that once my queue empties and let you know if my speed increases
it has already gotten faster or back to normal with changing the Article Cache Limit: to 1000M i have 6Gb of ram on the WHS.
On a separate note I see Vail was released today for Beta have you tried it out yet, I'm downloading it now via windowsconnect.
Again thanks for all your help.

Thanks for the Vail tip.
I'm surprised that you need such a large cache.
The idea of the cache is that SABnzbd can collect all articles in memory
until it's time to write a complete file to disk.
So if your average file is 50M, about 60-70M should be OK.
Can you see what SABnzbd really uses?

I lowered the size of the cache,
I'm no getting consistent speed's of 1.75Mb's which is good.
That must be the max for Astraweb servers as my ISP
speedtest is 17Mb's. Sab is using about 80,000k memory.

This memory use is consistent with an average file size of 50M.
Aren't you mixing MBytes with MBits ?
SABnzbd shows MBytes/sec.
