Server timeouts and stalls [SOLVED]

Post by mrprefect »

To start off:
Version: 0.5.0RC6 at first, then I tried 0.4.9, same issue
Ubuntu 9.10 x64
deb repositories
all skins, tried each and didn't make a difference
no firewall software on this server, all done at the router
I will also add the server is running dual SSD RAID1 drives for the OS and RAID5 for the storage. I don't think this should really make a difference, but who knows.

I had this running before and then I upgraded my server and since I haven't been able to get a stable connection.

It connects to the newsgroup servers and starts nicely but after 2-5 minutes the connection goes to 0kb and I get timeout errors. It stays here for a few minutes and then comes back again.

I tested it on a windows VM to see if it was something on the network, no issues when run on here

I've tried a couple different versions with no difference

I'm sure it is something to do with the setup or the program, it will eventually download the files but keeps timing out and literally hosing the network connection. At the same time I see the connection drop I also see my ping times go way up 400+ ms.

I also tried turning down the speed to make sure the connection wasn't being saturated and it made no difference.

DNS lookup seems fine, I have no issue resolving IP's

I also tried brining down the timeout to 30 sec, still same issue.

EDIT: of course a few moments after I post this I figure out what it was. A second NIC on the PC was trying to get an IP address and DNS lookups must have been going through there occasionally. Been running for 15 minutes and working great. Sorry please close this topic.

Good that it works again.
Don't be shy to report issues that you solved yourself.
They may contain hints for future improvements.
Although SABnzbd could not have diagnosed this one correctly...

It's also useful to report solved issues because this forum gets indexed by Google very often. This thread is actually already the first forum hit for "sabnzbd server timeouts", so if anyone else ever comes across a similar issue, it should be VERY easy to find.
