Download folder not allowed to be UNC path? (WHS)

Post by redlandmover »

Hey guys, new to sabnzbd. i got sabnzbd running on my whs, but im having trouble setting the temporary download folder be a network share. Is it even possible to do? IF not, what are some of the work-arounds that people have been doing? I have only 13GB on the installation partition. Any ideas?

It cannot be done. The reason is that the PAR2 utility does not support UNC.
This is beyond our control.
It's not needed anyway.
Just create a folder directly on the D: drive of the WHS.
That's what I do, works fine.

Possibly you need to make some space free on D:, but there
are various methods documented on the WHS support sites.

Well, I'm doing just that for a year now and my WHS is still happy.
Do note that such data cannot be shared outside the box.
So it's only for temporary storage (cache, incomplete).
The final folders must use \\server\share style.

Thanks for that information. I am quite aware that everything that is shared must use UNC-path to correctly work, this is the reason why I am a little shy to just modify anything on the D:\ drive - I don't wanna end up with a corrupted datapool.

Wouldn't another possibility be to simply mount a shared folder to a drive letter? I guess I will try that, or could you think of any reason why this wouldn't work well?

A share as temp storage will work (as long as you mount it on a drive letter!)
but it is much slower than direct access to D:
Also you might get conflicts with the Drive Extender:
make sure you don't have replication on for the temp folders.
