Download par2 files only when needed

Hi,

would it be possible to set the par2 files as paused, and only download the needed par2 files whenever the check fails?

hmm, my bad. It does indeed.
Altough they aren't on "paused", which made me think he did download them.

I've known others to get confused by this feature too.
It's one of the more crucial/essential features of SAB and it's the kind of thing that would make someone start/stop using it.

I wonder how many people have thought it downloaded the par files and stopped using the app.

I had time now to watch the queue as something was being downloaded (yesterday I only watched the files in the download directory after I disabled the deletion of par2 files).
But in the queue it does seem to download my par2 files?

The paused setting of par2 files is only done if you have the PP/Post-Processing options set.

As by your screenshot you do not have any set (R/U/D) so it does not set any par2 items as paused.

ok, indeed. When i set the action to U the par2 files are set to waiting.
It would be nice to set them as "waiting" whenever they are added, and not only when downloading.

The reason it is done at download time is because we need to verify the files are infact par2 files.

The addition of binaries files to usenet was a very hacked together thing, and the only reliable way we can get a filename is to download the first part of each par2 file and inspect it's headers.

So we queue what we believe to be par2 files first, download the first bit of the file to get it's actual filename, then set the file to be in a paused state in case it is needed.

I'd love some clarification on this.  How can I force SAB to download all of all of the par2 files every time?  Can this be done?

Basically, I want the entire thing to be downloaded and I *don't* want it to be processed when the download completes.

As a newbie, any tips would be great.

Go to config>switches and set the "Default Post-Processing" to none. Or alternativly if you just want it to happen on one download, set the PP option to none (blank) on that download.
