Upgrading NAS to run SABNzbd: Celeron J4125 or Ryzen

Post by rudnicke »

I'm looking to upgrade to a new NAS. It's main purpose will be to run SABNzbd (and some directory services).

I'm looking at Synology. I've purchase 4 WD Red SSD 2TB drives. I'm trying to improve download and decode/extract speeds. Will a Intel Celeron J4125 be ok to run this, or do I need to Ryzen?

The Synology models I'm looking at are the DS1520+, DS1621+, or the DS920+.

I'd appreciate any input/advice.

Thanks,

I've a mini-box with an Intel(R) Celeron(R) J4105, with a SSD, and it's fast. I get SABnzbd downloads at 80 MB/s (so 700 Mbps), which is my fiber line speed.
The same mini-box plays content with VLC. Works great too.

So I would say a Celeron J4125, with SSD, is great for downloading and (as-is) watching.

I am not sure about real-time transcoding.
