Downloads that I never requested

Post by cyman1964uk »

Hi there,

I am using version 3.0.2 [51cc765] on Windows and all has been well until recently (I'd guess the past week or so), when I noticed TONS of downloaded material appearing in my SABnzbd queue, NONE of which I had ever requested.

Personally, I purposefully limit the sizes of files I download so that even movie files are of the order of 1GB. Some of these 'unwanted' files are 32GB each - and there are literally scores of file requests being made all at the same time! The files are accumulating in a folder on my hard drive, as would be expected.

I cleared the queue and changed my password on SABnzbd - to no avail - the files kept coming!
I cleared the queue again and changed by Usenet dot nl password - to no avail - the files kept coming!
I even changed my network password - you guessed it - to no avail!

Does anyone here have any suggestions as to what might be going on, please? Or at least, what steps I could take to get to the bottom of what is going on? Tests using Malwarebytes and McAfee don't reveal any concerns re: viruses, malware, etc, but it does feel like (whether purposefully or otherwise), this activity is being controlled from outside of my home network.

Not only am I filling my laptop up with lots of huge files which are of no interest to me, but also, my Usenet high-speed quotas are being used up and my ISP might get concerned by all this downloading activity.

I look forward to your responses.

Regards,
Simon.

Generate new SABnzbd API and NZB keys (in your SABnzbd configuration).

Have you configured SABnzbd to read any RSS feeds?
Stuff I like: Apache bash cron DD-WRT Debian DNSMasq Entware FireFox GitHub ImageMagick Kate KDE LibreELEC Netrunner NFS NVIDIA OpenVPN Orvibo-S20 pfSense Python Raspberry-Pi RAID SABnzbd Transmission Usenet VirtualBox Watcher3 XFCE

Yes indeed, if you change API keys you'll quickly see what is going on. Maybe you have a badly configured Sonarr/Radarr/Sickbeard setup.
But indeed, badly setup RSS-feeds could also be the issue.

Thanks for getting back to me, guys. I did change both the API and NZB keys in SABnzbd and I thought this had been a fix - until a few hours later when the spurious download splurge started all over again!

I haven't done anything specific with RSS feeds.

Any other suggestions, please?

If you enable Debug logging in the Status and Interface settings window, you can then inspect the logs where they come from. It will log al API requests and where new downloads are coming from.
Do you maybe have a Watched Folder setup in Config > Folders?

I should apologize, I am not too familiar with the inner workings of SABnzbd, Sonarr, etc. I don't really understand the significance of APIs and RSSs, etc. I guess thats pretty obvious ...

I did take a look again at the 'Indexers' inside of Sonarr and found an entry by the name of 'Gingadaddy', which I had previously tried to configure under NZBHydra2, but with no joy. Because I couldn't get it to work with NZBHydra2, I tried to manually add it individually to Sonarr.

Now, based on your last reply, I checked the debug log files and found some odd-looking entries (containing many of the 'unwanted download' titles) which were close to references to this Gingadaddy! Plus, the configuration of Gingadaddy within Sonarr DID involve links for RSS feeds (sorry, I forgot previously), so I figure there's a fair chance that the Gingadaddy settings are related to these unwanted downloads. So, I removed the Gingadaddy completely from Sonarr.

However, it seems that my SABnzbd .ini file has references to the unwanted stuff mentioned in the SABnzbd debug logfile and that as long as these references remain there, the unwanted files will be re-requested.

So, I figure that I need to flush out all these download requests that were in some sense initiated by Gingadaddy and start SABnzbd over again.

Does that make any sense to you guys? And, if it does, is there a straightforward way to 'refresh' the .ini file so that all future downloads have to be requested from this point forwards?

Your problem seems to be in Sonarr then, not SABnzbd.
I would disable all RSS feeds in SABnzbd (no checkmark in front of them).
And then modify your settings in Sonarr/Radarr/etc.
