Best Hard Drive Configuration

Post by SpykeYs »

Hi !

My internet link is 1Gbs and my current PC setup is:

C:/ - 500 GB HDD (Windows 10, Sabnzbd and plex)
Z:/ - 16 TB Synology NAS

Download_dir is configured to be 500 GB HDD and complete_dir is configured to be the NAS.

When downloading multiple files at the same time, I have a huge bottleneck at the hard drive level and everything freezes including Plex.

I obviously would like to buy some SSDs for OS and Unraring/processing.

I am thinking about something like this:

C:/ 500 GB SSD for OS/Sabnzbd/Plex
D:/ 500 GB SSD for unrarring/processing
Z:/ 16 TB Synology NAS

Would this be ideal scenario ? Download_dir would become C:/, complete_dir would become D:/ and how can I then files to final destination being Z:/ ?

Thank you all for your help !

Or pehaps I just need a 500GB SSD for OS/Downloads and does not need a second one from processing ? I'm lost.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In this case I would suggest to use D for download_dir and complete_dir still Z.
This prevents useless-back and forth writing.
You could tweak SABnzbd to be less aggressive with Unrar, for example to set direct_unpack_threads=1 in Conifg > Specials and to set the External process priority in Config > Switches to Idle.
