SABnzbd randomly idles, then resumes? Why?

For some reason my SABnzbd connection randomly slows down and "idles" at a few bytes / second. It could do this for 20 minutes, or two hours. Then it picks up and works like normal (3-5mb/sec) per download - which is where it should be.

I should've probably stated that this is on Ubuntu.

Usually this happens when a download is discovered that is missing from all your (primary) servers.
SAB will try all articles first on your primaries, then move to the next level and try them all there, and so on.
The more servers you have configured, the longer it takes.
